Eating House 1849 Catch a ball game at the bar
Eating House 1849 in Kapolei Hawaii, is the latest great restaurant creation from Chef Roy Yamaguchi of Roy’s Hawaii Restaurant fame.  The name Eating House pays homage to Hawaii’s culinary heritage. The story goes that Peter Fernandez opened in 1849 one of the first Hawaii restaurants called Eating House, tapping into the local farmers, ranchers and fisherman to supply his needs. All the great things I love about eating at Roy’s Hawaii are here at the Eating House 1849. Very warm friendly professional staff, amazing island cocktails, fabulous food including some of my favorite dishes I always enjoy at Roy’s Hawaii.
Eating House 1849 – Relaxing outdoor patio dining
Eating House 1849 Their sumptuous ribs will put a smile on your face
Five nights a week,Wednesday through Sunday here you can hear live island music while enjoying a family night or a romantic dinner. Hearing the sounds of soothing island music while tasting all the flavors of Hawaii makes for a perfect night out. The menu is influenced by Portuguese and Filipino dishes along with Asian fusion which Roy is famous for. I can’t get enough of Roy’s Original Szechuan Ribs, and I love the Seared Ahi Tuna with a delicate mustard sauce. Both dishes I was thrilled to find are here at Eating House 1849 on the Pupu (Island Tapas) portion of the menu, perfect for sharing.

Delicate and flavorful they just melt in your mouth. We also loved the the Palabok Potstickers, stuffed with pork, shrimp and Celamansi. Or maybe you will jump on the Chili Pepper Chicken Wings, there are eleven choices for starters. The Garden Fresh portion of the menu offers several dishes including Seared Shrimp Ceaser, and a CBLT Salad made up of lump crab, applewood smoked bacon with a celantro mayo dressing. Keep in mind the menu changes regularly.
Eating House 1849 Kamameshi Bowl with Butterfish
There is a Rice & Noodles section and we enjoyed the Kamameshi (hot pot rice bowl) with Butter Fish, a tasty moist white fish that is mouth watering good. At lunch this dish is offered with chicken or salmon. As it was with the century old Eating House the philosophy here is all dishes are meant to be shared, family style. From the Land and Sea section the choices are vast, from Tavern Style Fried Chicken, Braised Lamb Shank, Grilled Fresh Market Catch, Open Fire Grilled 12 oz. Steak.
Eating House 1849 BBQ mixed Plate and Salmon with Thai Curry Risotto
We opted for the King Salmon Thai Curry Risotto, simply spectacular. We also shared the BBQ Mixed Plate made up of, three Colossal Shrimp, three Szechwan Ribs, and a tender Chicken Breast, Save room for dessert, Chocolate Lava Cake with its crunchy outside and soft melted inside served with vanilla ice cream is divine. The Deep Dish Brownie with marshmallows and drizzled caramel across the top was also a big hit at our table.

Keiki (kids) menu, just like at Roy’s includes for starters a complimentary cheese quesadilla along with grapes and sliced orange. For kids dinner they can choose pasta, teriyaki grilled fish or chicken and it includes an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich for dessert. Eating House 1849 in Kapolei is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. There is a second location on Oahu in Waikiki and also one in Koloa on the island of Kauai. Make sure on your next trip to Oahu or Kauai you stop in for a fantastic night. And if you haven’t been to Roy’s Hawaii there are several of them throughout the Hawaiian Islands, I highly recommend both restaurants. Photos provided by Mitchell Sacharoff
